St
Peter's Church
St
Peter's Church is within the Diocese of Leicester and was completed
during the 12th century; the earliest reference to the church
being in 1155 when the prior of Belvoir priory became Patron.
The first rector is recorded in 1220.
Dominating
the local skyline, the church tower is around 150ft high and
is topped by an octagonal crocketed spire. Around the base of
the tower are several gargoyles and water spouts; on the south
side being a contortionist with his head between his legs, on
the west is a lion and on the north a gurning face.
The
Church is opened every day for visitors and also hosts various
local community groups such as the vibrant Mums
& Toddlers meeting; held every Wednesday morning - details
in the Diary.
Costing
£6700 a year to maintain, all donations are welcome to
provide for the upkeep and other running costs of the church.
